Answer

1

How much continuing education am I required to take each year to maintain an Active license? To maintain an Active license, a licensee must take eight (8) hours of continuing education each year. Provisional Brokers and non-BIC Brokers must take the General Update course and one Commission-approved elective. BICs and BIC-Eligible Brokers should* take the BICUP (Broker-in-Charge Update) course and one Commission-approved elective. See Rule 58A.1702.
*A BIC or BIC-eligible Broker who takes the General Update course and an elective will maintain an Active license but will lose his/her BIC status/eligibility.

My license is on inactive status. What must I do to return my license to active status? The requirements for license activation vary depending upon how long the license has been on inactive status and whether there is a deficiency in the broker’s CE record. Per Commission Rule 58A .1703:
  • If a broker’s license is inactive and there is no CE deficiency, just submit the License Activation/Affiliation Form (Form 2.08 – available online).
  • If a broker’s license has been inactive for less than 2 years and there is a CE deficiency, complete the current year’s GenUp course and 1 elective, then take either 1 or 2 more elective courses to make up the number of hours not taken in the previous license year (16 hour maximum). Then submit form 2.08.
  • If a broker’s license has been inactive for more than 2 years and there is a CE deficiency, successfully complete two 30-hour Postlicensing courses (courses must be completed within 6 months prior to submitting form 2.08), and complete the current year’s GenUp and 1 elective course. [60 hours of Postlicensing education + 8 hours of CE = 68 hours of education required for activation.] Then submit form 2.08.
